In the event of snow and ice could all students, (Evesham and Malvern), please contact the ABI Centre at Evesham (01386 712635) - (Not the main College).

If the Centre at Evesham is closed (or the ABI programme at Malvern is not running) a message will be left on the answering machine.

The Acquired Brain Injury Education Service (ABIES) offers a wealth of experience of the nature of Acquired Brain Injury and provides

a practical approach to meeting students' ever changing educational needs. It looks at the brain from an educational perspective rather than a medical perspective. The brain is after

all the human "learning machine".

The ABIES is based in a purpose built Centre at South Worcestershire College, Evesham Campus.  Funding for the building was provided by the National Lottery Charities Board (now the Community Fund) as the result of a successful bid made by the Acquired Aphasia Trust.

The Centre provides the following facilities:

  • A base for specialist education and health professionals working with people with an acquired brain injury
  • Several rooms for classrooms or meetings
  • A fully equipped computer room
  • A kitchen
  • Specialised resources
  • A conference/training room
  • Offices

There are a variety of courses available - including for example: Healthy Living, Keep Moving, Assertiveness and Living with a Brain Injury. These particular sessions aim to assist students' understanding how the brain works, how injuries affect its function and how to manage the consequences of brain injury both physically and cognitively.

These students follow a course investigating Personal Lifestyles and attend specific exercise and gym classes.

Many other courses are available to meet the individual needs of the students.

Students are encouraged to take accredited courses ie qualifications attached to their course, these will be discussed with the tutor in charge of the course.

Students will not be able to attend the ABI Centre for an unlimited time.

This is negotiated on an individual basis.
